25 March 2013
Saturday 16 March 2013 saw IEC/Alpro Architectural Hardware sponsor an amateur boxing match for Portland Amateur Boxing Club. Kyle Baldwin, the son of Alpro's internal Sales Office Manager Joanne Baldwin and an up and coming young amateur boxer had only his second official boxing match. Kyle 13 years old and representing Portland ABC was matched against Morgan Purchess of the Shepton Mallet ABC. The bout was fought over 3 1.5 minute rounds and was strictly controlled at all times to ensure fair play and adherence to the Marquis of Queensbury rules and current ABA requirements. The first round started slowly with both boxers sizing up their opponent and Kyle was slow to start. However the second round saw Kyle fighting back and the round was scored even between the 2 fighters. In round 3 Kyle landed some good shots, but unfortunately had left it too late to make up for the lost ground in round 1. Overall the bout was a very good fight for both participants, but the win went to Morgan and the Shepton Mallet club. After the bout Kyle commented 'I was pleased with my overall performance and as this was only my second fight, I think I was nervous and that had an effect on my performance. It was however a great experience for me and I will continue to improve both my confidence and fitness'. Suffice to say that Mum Joanne was pleased Kyle came through the ordeal unscathed.
